 Ok, I thought your project might be a simpler example than pgplot.

 The version you replaced ld with is essentially the same version, so it's
 probably a build setting or an external dependency that is out of whack.
 I'll look into it soon.  If you find an example that is simpler than
 pgplot, please do let me know.
