> The link I provided was found on ROOT Talk as a potential solution, it
was linked when I posted myself about this particular problem. It sounded
like it was a potential solution that would go in the configuration part
of the portfile or something. Indeed in their post they mention cocoa and
10.8, but I was not using them.

root +python27 +fftw3, which builds but then seems to not work properly in
the graphics department. echo $DISPLAY says: /tmp/launch-MeooNC/org.x:0 .

$DISPLAY is the same, and the behavior is the same. The only "xquartz"
that I have from macports is qt4-mac+quartz, but I don't have an actual
quartz port.
I just installed XQuartz 2.7.3, logged out and in, uninstalled root, re-
installed (with just +python27 and +fftw3). Now $DISPLAY is /tmp/launch-
liKLue/org.macosforge.xquartz:0 and the behavior is the same.
