 The interesting part is ''how'' the patch command fails:

 :info:patch /usr/bin/patch: **** Can't rename file
 src/main/java/org/junit/matchers/package-info.java to
 src/main/java/org/junit/matchers/package-info.java.orig : Permission
 denied
 }}}

 That shouldn't happen. I wonder why it doesn't have permission on your
 system. It works fine for me.
