 The recent upgrade of gcc45 appears to cure the undefined symbols problem.
 Now, however, the octave-devel build seems to fail with a malloc error.
 Here are 28 lines from line # 8996 of the log file. This is where the
 build breaks down. The complete log, main.2.log, is attached.
