 OK; I understand the Portfile changes. Interesting idea. There are folks
 who would want to use newer gcc since it provides better / more efficient
 assembly code; but, I can see the attractiveness of using a stable / known
 compiler for the C and C++ codes. Thus, let me get the current version
 working, then I'll try your variant.
