 Maxima depends on the currently 32 bit tk from macports. The part of
 maxima that needs it is the graphical shell xmaxima. An alternative shell
 wxMaxima-devel already is 64 bit clean (doesn't depend on any i386 ports).
 The xmaxima should be made a variant that's turned on by default but can
 be turned off. In presence of xmaxima variant maxima should be 32-bit
 only, otherwise is universal.

 I'll work on a patch.
