 Regarding your concerns about other issues (eg: libgfortran linkage),
 please file a new ticket explaining why you feel there is a problem there.

 If you are interested in helping out in maintaining the toolchain in
 MacPorts, there's plenty of room to help out with patches, running the
 test suite, etc.
