 Thank you for all your pointers. You are correct, I didn't want to install
 ''every'' port with an ssl variant: only wget. Now I need to go back and
 see what other ssl variants got installed and uninstall them.

 It goes without saying that I'm new to MacPorts syntax. I suppose there's
 a bit of egg on my face.  ; )
