Comment (by macports+al@…):

Ok. First off, sorry for putting too much content inline. Will attach
next time. I saw the maintainer is no longer with MacPorts.

So, I did some research and it would appear LUA_GLOBALSINDEX was
 [http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10087226/lua-5-2-lua-globalsindex-
alternative deprecated in the Lua 5.2 API] (default install in MacPorts
for Lua is version 5.2.2, which I installed; will uninstall and test the
`lua50` package shortly). It broke for the same reason
 [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=985750 when building for
Fedora Rawhide around the same time]. There is not a lot of information
about this change, and I do not see an immediate way to fix the header
option was deprecated, at least from limited searching. Monotone
currently supports 5.1, not 5.2 So, in any event this would be an
upstream issue with monotone, if my explanation above is accurate.

I will try to open a ticket the monotone folks. Should this be closed or
leave it here and I update this with info from the monotone upstream
 folks?
