 I found just the gfortran and pcre libraries, too.  You could do what
 @larryv suggests: whenever you do something with MacPorts, first move
 /use/local to /usr/local_tmp, then do the MacPorts stuff, then move
 /usr/local_tmp back to /usr/local. Should work well, even if it's a bit of
 a PITA to remember.  Since you need at least some of the stuff in
 /usr/local, I'm not sure what other choice you have if you want both
 MacPorts and your /usr/local stuff playing nicely together.
