Comment:

 There were problems updating libpng from 1.2 to 1.4 and from 1.4 to 1.5:
 changes made in those versions of libpng caused other programs to fail to
 build, so we waited a long time after those versions were released to
 update the port, in the hopes that other programs would have been updated
 by then to be compatible.

 That doesn't appear to be the case with 1.6. I've been running my main
 MacPorts installation with 1.6 since it came out and have not encountered
 any build issues with other ports, so I do intend to update the port
 without delay. The only difficulty with doing that is the necessity of
 identifying all ports depending on libpng and increasing their revisions
 to rebuild them.
