Comment (by ctreleaven@…):

I know of at least a couple of users that have successfully installed Myth
 (and MySQL 5) under Mavericks.

Did you get an error message while trying to build and install MySQL?

Perhaps you neglected to install the port 'mysql5-server'? See

Ryan, regarding variants, In an ideal world, I'd like to support variants
for the various databases, perl versions and python versions.
Practically, however, it is a support nightmare. From the link above, you
can see that I have a couple of wiki pages with detailed cookbook-style
instructions. Those would become even more challenging to try to follow
if expanded for a bunch of variant combinations. To pick one specific
issue, if a user wanted to migrate their system from one database to
another, they would have to use a very precise set of steps to make a
backup of the existing database and restore it to the new one. It is not
particularly difficult but there are several opportunities to go wrong.
My goal has been to make it so Myth can be installed by someone with
minimal exposure to the command line.

Also, whenever a user experienced a problem, there would the question of
whether it was caused by their configuration. I simply don't have the
time or resources to develop, maintain and test a bunch of configurations.
 If I had some help...
