 As for what the OP can do: Try to install the dependencies first, one at a
 time; start with "texlive +full" since that will get IIRC all of the
 texlive ports. Then move on to the others. You could even try something
 like:

 fontutils lcdf-typetools ps2eps texlive-lang-czechslovak texlive-lang-
 dutch texlive-lang-english texlive-lang-french texlive-lang-german
 texlive-lang-italian texlive-lang-polish texlive-lang-portuguese texlive-
 lang-spanish texlive-luatex texlive-latex-extra texlive-pictures gnuplot"
 for tf in $fff; do sudo port install ${tf} +atlas +docs; done

 and then see if that gets all of the background stuff installed. If so,
 then you could try the original octave-devel install command again.
