 Sorry, must be late:  I don't see a clang-assert.patch in port icu.

 According to the Xcode 3.1.4 Release Notes, "GCC 4.2 is a new optional
 compiler".  It is there but gcc-4.0 is the default.  That's the case on
 all of my Xcode 3.1.4 installations, PPC and Intel.  Always has been.
