 the log had these lines:

 :info:fetch --->  ffmpeg-1.1.1.tar.bz2 doesn't seem to exist in
 /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/ffmpeg
 :notice:fetch --->  Attempting to fetch ffmpeg-1.1.1.tar.bz2 from
 http://lil.fr.distfiles.macports.org/ffmpeg
 :debug:fetch Fetching distfile failed:: The requested URL returned error:
 404
 :notice:fetch --->  Attempting to fetch ffmpeg-1.1.1.tar.bz2 from
 http://mse.uk.distfiles.macports.org/sites/distfiles.macports.org/ffmpeg
 :debug:fetch Fetching distfile failed:: The requested URL returned error:
 404

 but now downloading and building worked, so worksforme.
