 Yep.  See my message to the mailing list.

 In addition to removing that line, a more proper fix would involve doing
 an autoreconf to ensure this check isn't done.  If you just remove setting
 that variable, it will only work if perl5 and intltool were built with the
 same variant.  autoreconfing will allow them to be built with different
 variants.
