 For the record, I've done only limited testing of gcc48 on ppc. The ports
 I've built with it are atlas, fftw-3, and py27-numpy. The numpy test
 results are

     Ran 4459 tests in 88.311s

     FAILED (KNOWNFAIL=8, SKIP=25, failures=1)
 }}}
 Except for the one unexpected failure, this is identical to what I get
 when I build with gcc4{5,6,7}. (The gcc45 variant of py27-numpy was linked
 with Accelerate. All other gcc variants of py27-numpy were linked with
 atlas)
