 Thanks.  I had to install Fortran support in mpich-devel with "port
 install mpich-devel +gcc47" for the ARPACK build to succeed.  I don't know
 that OpenMPI installs Fortran support by default either, but it seems that
 was user error on my part.  I'm currently waiting for ATLAS to build but I
 guess the problem is resolved.  I appreciate your help and quick feedback.
