 Ah; I see. That leads me back to the arpack configure script, which does
 seem to be mixing and matching -m32 and -m64, when it should be using the
 former only for this configure.  I'll file another ticket for that issue.

 So, if i386 libraries are located in /opt/local/lib/gcc47/i386, why are
 the x86_64 libraries in /opt/local/lib/gcc47 and not
 /opt/local/lib/gcc47/x86_64? Are these libraries the "default" when no
 -mXX is supplied?
