 Note that I just upgraded (today) from macports 2.0.3 to 2.1.3, as well as
 'svn up' in
 the checkedout ports directory, and never had this problem under 2.0.3.

 We don't have rsync to the outside world, so I had to 'configure && make
 && make install'
 from 2.1.3 sources in order to upgrade macports from 2.0.3.  So it just
 installed right over
 the old one.

 I also haven't upgraded any outdated or installed any new macports in
 quite a while, and
 Mac OS is automatically updating itself weekly.  So it's tough to pin it
 solely on either
 macports or Mac OS.
