 In response to your query:

 - /opt/local/include/gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkx.h exists.

 - This is a fresh/new install of MacPorts.  I reached this point only by
 executing "sudo port install spe"

 - "port installed gtk2" responds with:
 {{{
 Soleil:gdk john$ port installed gtk2
 The following ports are currently installed:
   gtk2 @2.24.16_0+x11 (active)
 }}}
