 That doesn't appear to be the case here. The clang version string is
 "Apple clang version 1.7 (tags/Apple/clang-77) (based on LLVM 2.9svn)".
 rethinkdb has a peculiar non-autoconf configure script and I haven't yet
 figured out how to tell it what compiler we want it to use. Perhaps it is
 not possible yet; see [https://github.com/rethinkdb/rethinkdb/issues/426
 upstream issue 426].
