 Incidentally, I tried setting the SDK in the environment:

 SDKROOT=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk
 }}}

 … but this made no difference.
