 I've run into the dependency look with `port mpkg octave-devel
 +atlas+docs...`, and am unable to work around the problem, so I'm editing
 the Portfiles and commenting out the `docs` variant.  That gave me an idea
 to resolve the circular dependency.  Rather than a `docs` variant, could
 ports for the documentation be introduced, say `xorg-libxcb-docs`?
