 Build of audio works for me on Mavericks.  That coupled with your comments
 about existing ports makes me wonder if you have followed the procedure
 specified in [wiki:Migration] when updating your MacPorts installation to
 Mavericks.  Note the necessity to uninstall all old ports built on
 previous OS versions and then reinstall them after updating MacPorts
 itself to Mavericks.
