 Please make the library by adding the --enable-reentrant flag at configure
 time, i.e. add
 configure.args      --enable-reentrant

 I noticed this while I was creating a port for
 (http://www.eso.org/sci/software/cpl/), which by default requires cfitsio
 to be compiled with that flag. I've been told by some colleagues that they
 used to disable multithreading on OS X because of some OpenMP issues,
 which seem to be solved on 10.9, so you might want to double check if this
 option works on 10.8 (I have no access to it anymore)
