 I have the same problem here. The relevant error is:

 :info:build partarray.cc:42:31: error: variable length array of non-POD
 element type 'Array<octave_idx_type>'

 }}}

 I wonder if this is really a macports-specific issue. Shouldn't maxdims be
 declared const ?
 Anyhow, this was reported in Octave bug tracker, e.g.:

 But this bug is marked as "closed", with the conclusion that partarray
 should be removed... So, I am not sure why it wasn't. I will ask on Octave
 mailing list.
