 It looks to me like you didn't install the Command Line Tools on Mavericks
 as noted in the migration guide
 https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration#OSX10.9Mavericks.  If you don't
 do that, various header files are not installed in their conventional
 locations.  Try running `xcode-select --install` first, then a clean
 rebuild of `python27 +universal`.  The configure patch shouldn't be
 needed.
