 I opened a new ticket #40734. I'm not sure if it's doable, but it would be
 nice to have the variants somehow added automatically.

 Even if not waiting for someone to implement additional functionality it
 is not really clear to me how to avoid duplication of code like:
 {{{
 depends_lib-append  port:pymol \
                     port:py${python.version}-scipy \
                     port:py${python.version}-numpy \
                     port:py${python.version}-wxpython-3.0
 }}}
 if variants are added.
