 Try this: install the ports I mentioned above. Now edit octave Portfile
 and change line 208 from

 {{{
 configure.f77 ${prefix}/bin/gfortran-mp-${ver}
 }}}

 to

 {{{
 configure.f77 ${prefix}/bin/dragonegg-3.3-gfortran-mp-${ver}
 }}}

 and try installing octave with the +gcc48 variant.
