 I see `build_gcc` is a shell script copied from the files directory, where
 it is also missing the execute bit on my system, despite the fact that the
 `svn:executable` property is set.

 I just converted my dports working copy from Subversion 1.6 format to 1.8
 format; perhaps the conversion process has a bug that caused the execute
 bit to be lost.

 I'll test whether changing the portfile to use `xinstall` to install the
 file (which would add the execute bit) works. I think that would be
 preferable to relying on existing permissions.
