Comment:

 No. Users are not meant to manually change configure.compiler,
 configure.cc or similar. Ports will choose them correctly for you. In the
 case of R, it requires a Fortran compiler, which Xcode does not provide
 but gcc48 does. If you want to use a different gcc port's Fortran compiler
 instead, there are variants available.
