 this can be resolved by just bumping version.
 smlnj-110.76 has been released for solving exactly that issue:

 (Summary:  The primary purpose of this release are bug fixes (mostly on
 Windows) and to add support for the latest version of Mac OS X
 (10.9/Mavericks).)
