 Also, VTK 6 installs pretty cleanly and easily under 10.9 once the
 following patch is installed:

 http://review.source.kitware.com/#/c/12924/

 VTK 5.X is on the way out, perhaps the right way forward for this port is
 to transition to VTK 6.
