 Oh that's interesting; I didn't realize that.

 The ports I have installed that seem to be defaulting to gcc48 are R,
 octave-devel (from looking at the Portfile, it appears that the non-devel
 Octave port similiary defaults to gcc48) and openmpi.

 I could change this patch to just add the gcc48 and gcc49 variants and
 leave the default to gcc47 alone, if that is easier?
