 With MacPorts, use the Applescript helper
 (/Applications/MacPorts/MythTV/Mythfrontend.app etc) to start the app and
 it will start mythlogserver beforehand.

 The official packaged app has never produced logs so they don't consider
 the mythlogserver crashes a problem(!).
