 the version in macports seems to be the most recent release (and it was so
 for some time: ksh is not changing that much any more these days I
 believe) and it used to compile/run under 10.8 just fine IIRC. so I'm not
 sure that the problem does not strictly lie with ksh itself?

 anyway, I have followed your advice and posted the problem to  ast-
 users at lists.research.att.com. will keep you informed.
