 installation of surf fails generating the attached main.log. this happens
 under 10.9.2 (Xcode command line tools are installed, `/usr/bin/gcc
 --version' yields

 Apple LLVM version 5.1 (clang-503.0.40) (based on LLVM 3.4svn)

 another observation,  not directly related to the failing install but
 affecting this port: when compiling `surf' manually (which succeeds)
 starting the application crashes issuing the  error

 XIO:  fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server
 "/tmp/launch-UHHPmM/org.macosforge.xquartz:0"
 }}}

 which apparently pops up with quite some x11 applications (mgrace, gv,
 ...) currently. any ideas what's causing this?
