 Between my install last night of Macports cmake and now, it has started
 working okay. Perhaps quitting out of X11 and starting it back up again
 fixed the problem.
 cmake —version now gives:
 cmake version 3.0.0

 CMake suite maintained and supported by Kitware (kitware.com/cmake).

  as expected. Sorry for the false alarm.
