 Sorry for not replying any sooner, but I've been away on vacation.

 I did as you told: port clean gimp-gap-devel, then a port install gimp-
 gap-devel. It installed without errors.

 I can start Gimp from the terminal and it seems to work. There's however
 still a problem with selecting a Font family: it won't let me. Otherwise
 it looks ok.
