Comment:

 The lines in the attached logfile that say "Skipping completed" indicate
 that it was not from a clean attempt.

 MacPorts works fine with GNU tar (which was the system tar on OS X 10.8
 and earlier) and BSD tar (the system tar on OS X 10.9 and later). I don't
 know why it's not working with your tar symlink, but that's not a
 supported configuration.
