 I don't see anything about missing lapack symbols. I do notice that you
 have octave with the atlas variant installed and arpack with the
 accelerate variant. So they are using different version of Lapack. That
 seems like a likely source of problems. Can you deactivate octave (sudo
 port -f deactivate octave) and then upgrade arpack? If that works, perhaps
 it's best to install octave with the same variants.
