 OK, I think that I've figured out the problem - the default '''db'''
 should be set to '''none'''. The following works:

 $ sudo port select --set db none
 $ port select --list db
 Available versions for db:
         db46
         none (active)
 $ sudo port -sv upgrade db46
 }}}
