 I tried severals tacks before reporting a bug and honestly can't remember
 right now whether I cleaned between attempts, so that might be cruft from
 other attempts. Want me to fire it up again with the directories cleaned?
 (I am not often at my Mac these days, so it might be a few days).

 Correct, am on Mavericks and have installed PackageMaker.
