 I had to do a complete reinstall after upgrading to Mavericks.
 Successfully installed xv as a test. But when trying to install texlive,
 gnuplot, etc etc, it always failed with the error:
 Error: org.macports.patch for port freetype returned: command execution
 failed

 All installations seem to die at freetype as this is what each said after
 crashing.  I did a selfupdate etc. Here is the logfile from trying to
 install xfig. I will try to attach the log file
