 Ok, well, I figured out the problem:

 The port deletes ${prefix}/lib to prevent linking to a previous version
 already installed. The strange part is why my version worked … Well,
 anyway, I will test to make sure version >=1.7 don't link against a
 previously installed version of openmpi and get back to you.
