 It appears that the work-around fails for me since I've been waiting for
 bugs to fix building of llvm/clang on my system and libffi is now a
 dependency of llvm. Specific failure on attempting it:

 $ sudo port upgrade libffi configure.compiler=macports-clang-3.3
 Error: port lookup failed: too many nested evaluations (infinite loop?)
