 Turns out upstream has done the work for us already:
 http://git.mplayer2.org/mplayer2/commit/?id=2c378c71a4d9b1df382db9aa787b646628b4e3f9.

 Updated to the 2013-10-09 version in r121708.

 Note that your change would have required increasing the revision number,
 because mplayer2 previously built fine, but this modification changes the
 installed files.
