 I ran sudo port install octave-optim and got the following error message:

 {{{
 bash-3.2$ sudo port install octave-optim
 Password:
 --->  Computing dependencies for octave-optim
 --->  Dependencies to be installed: octave-miscellaneous octave-general
 octave-struct
 --->  Configuring octave-general
 Error: org.macports.configure for port octave-general returned: configure

 octave-general octave-struct
 To report a bug, follow the instructions in the guide:

 Error: Processing of port octave-optim failed
 }}}

 This is on OSX 10.9.4. The problem is relatively new. Last week I
 successfully installed it using this command. Since then, I have
 reinstalled my operating system and restored from a time machine backup.
 MacPorts only partially reinstalled, leaving me with a gcc with no
 libraries (no stdio.h!). To solve this, I uninstalled MacPorts according
 to the following directions:
 https://guide.macports.org/chunked/installing.macports.uninstalling.html
 After reinstalling MacPorts, I am now reinstalling the software I had on
 it before, including octave and its packages. Right now, I have no
 packages, not even general, installed on octave.

 sudo port install octave-general also failed.

 Thanks,
 Steven
