 This ticket very probably is not relevant anymore.

 * If there was some issue with more recent scons 4 years ago, it was
 probably gone in the meantime.
 * Users really need older versions these can be installed as indicated by
 jmr

 So I am closing this. If the reporter disagrees it could be reopened.
